'Fireman' (there are no firewomen) is a coveted job, 1 may be chosen from 200. As homes are usually concrete, and contain almost nothing, and the country is poor, one finds fire stations only in the few towns and cities. Sigatoka's has a single truck. Other than that it's all very much like back home: they work 24hrs on, 48 off, very similar equipment, except the trucks are japanese. They do almost nothing, other than train, stay fit, and wait for retirement, age 60. Great guys. I do aerobics here every eve, the best part of an otherwise highly stressful day.
